Maeve Binchy Dublin Writer
If you're not willing to tackle the heavy works of Joyce, Swift of Burke while visiting Dublin, try reading one of Maeve Binchy's novels for a enjoyable, refreshing read. Binchy is one of Ireland's premiere storytellers, and with many of her books taking place in or around Dublin, they make for a great vacation read.

Maeve Binchy was born in Dublin in 1940, and grew up just outside of the city. She took her history degree at University College, taught at a Girls' school, and columns for the Irish Times before writing novels. Her books are now well loved throughout the world, and she has a loyal fan base that extends to every continent. One of her most well known books, Circle of Friends, was made into a hit movie in the 1990s, starring Chris O'Donnell and Minnie Driver.

If you will be mostly staying in Dublin, try reading Quentin's, Circle of Friends, Tara Road or Evening Class. For reads that have a countryside setting, pick up Light a Penny Candle, the Copper Beach, or the Glass Lake.
