Christ Church Cathedral Dublin

Christ Church, Dublin
One of Dublin's greatest historical buildings is the beautiful Christ Church Cathedral. The foundations of the cathedral date back nearly 1000 years, and in the 1180s, the original foundation was extended and rebuilt in stone by the Anglo-Normans, led by Strongbow. A huge restoration project in the 1870's left the church as you see it now, as a beautiful building in the
Gothic Revival style, but with much of the medieval cathedral still intact.
Visitors will enjoy exploring this lovely church and learning about its rich history. The interior contains endless artifacts and memorials. The church also houses its share of curiosities, many of them in the ancient crypt under the cathedral. Some of them border on the strange, for example, one corner of the Cathedral contains a mummified cat and rat. Legend has it that
they were trapped during a chase through the church's organ pipes. Also inside are numerous statues to past nobility, including one to Strongbow himself.
Be sure that while you are inside the church itself you take a look at all the beautiful stained glass, as well as the exceptional architecture.
